Gather Expressions of Black Identity

For the second edition of Art Mile, Red Bull Arts and MOCAD are pleased to present a conversation between art historian Samantha Noël, artist Akeem Smith, and artist Damon Davis about the artistic practice of collecting expressions of Black identity, moderated by artist and MOCAD Senior Curator Jova Lynne. Akeem Smith and Damon Davis, are two artists who practice the method of gathering materials and images to construct narratives around culture and identity in their work. Join us in celebrating the exhibition of Akeem Smith: No Gyal Can Test, on view at Red Bull Arts Detroit from April 16–July 31, and Damon Davis: Filling In The Cracks at MOCAD from June 4th–August 8th.
