Lawrence Street Gallery
Lawrence Street Gallery started as an artists' cooperative in downtown Pontiac on Lawrence Street in 1987. Now, thirty-three years and over one hundred member artists later, the fine-arts gallery is still exhibiting area artists' work in its current home on Woodward Avenue in Ferndale. Each month the gallery hosts a featured exhibit of member or guest artists, or a juried competition, in addition to the work of its thirty member artists. The gallery changes its exhibits each month, with opening receptions on the First Friday and mid-month receptions on the 3rd Sunday. The exhibits include a variety of exciting media: painting (water color, acrylic, oil, pastel), primtmaking, ceramics, photography, fine wood-turned objects, assemblage, jewelry, fibers, and sculpture plus theme-based competitions such as The Body Eclectic (Feb), Exposures: Photography ( April), Summer Invitational - all media (July), Collage/Assemblage (Oct.) and Think Small - all-media but 12 inches and smaller( Dec.). Since last year had limited gallery visitors, our website now has the featured exhibit totally online, as well as, a sampling of the members' work and also available for purchasing online.
