In Episode 2 of Local Axis, two staples of Detroit’s music scene come together as DJ Father Dukes joins electronic musician and drummer Shigeto at Portage Garage Sounds—a multi-disciplinary creative space that includes a recording studio, ceramics practice, and more. FATHER DUKES (HAILEY DUKES) is a music journalist-turned-DJ. Originally from Kent, Ohio, Father Dukes creates a divine dance for all people while pushing the limits of musical cohesion; constantly exploring new scenes and sounds. You can find house, techno, hip-hop, electro, funk, soul, disco, and more in her repertoire. As an avid dancer and local music enthusiast, she uses her DJing ability to unite, move, and free people.

SHIGETO (ZACHARY SHIGETO SAGINAW) produces an organic form of electronic music that blends influences such as hip-hop, IDM, ambient, and house. During his live performances, he frequently veers from his electronic equipment and lays down jazzy rhythms on his first instrument, the drums. In 2017, Shigeto co-founded Portage Garage Sounds in Hamtramck, MI alongside his brother Ben Saginaw and friend Vinnie Massimino.
